Siemens Gamesa to build French turbine factory

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (Siemens Gamesa) and HAROPA - Port du Havre have signed an agreement for the establishment of an offshore wind turbine manufacturing plant at the Port of Le Havre. The site will be used for the production of blades, nacelles and generators, and also to support installation activities.

The agreement signed covers duration of 30 years and 36 hectares of land between the Joannès Couvert and Hermann du Pasquier quays. Construction of the plant is expected to begin mid-2020 and to create around 750 jobs, both directly and indirectly.

"This is an essential step in the realization of our industrial project. The next step, once the authorizations obtained, will be to prepare, with the local actors and our partners, the training and recruiting the 750 people who will work on this project. We will be there! " said Filippo Cimitan, President of Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy France.

"We are delighted with this signature, which constitutes a decisive step expected by all," said Baptiste Maurand, Managing Director Haropa– Port du Havre. "It formalises commitments HAROPA - Port du Havre and SGRE respectively for the benefit of this job-creating sector industrial and port. Capital for the territory, this stage is also for HAROPA, actor privileged development of clean energy of tomorrow."

Maritime infrastructure works necessary for the development of the manufacturing facility have been financially supported by the State, the Normandy Region, the Le Havre Seine Urban Community Normandy, the City of Le Havre and the CCI Seine Estuaire.
