TÜV NORD to certify Hollandse Kust Zuid projects

TÜV NORD has been tasked with providing project certification for the Hollandse Kust Zuid 1&2 and Hollandse Kust Zuid 3 & 4 offshore wind farms, located off the Dutch coast.

Vattenfall, the developer behind both projects, initially tasked TÜV NORD to carry out the design inspection and certification of the foundations and support structure work. The company was also made responsible for certifying the design of the cabling within the farm. Vattenfall has since commissioned TÜV NORD to certify the execution phase as well. This includes the inspection of components onshore, transport of components to the offshore zone and their installation there, and commissioning of individual turbines. TÜV NORD will also evaluate the entire certification process and ultimately issue the project certificate.

The company will be carrying out the project certification in accordance with the internationally recognised IECRE OD-502 scheme. In autumn 2019, TÜV NORD was one of the first certification bodies to be acknowledged by the International Electrotechnical Commission Renewable Energy (IECRE) for project certification in accordance with the new OD-502 scheme. Work on the Dutch projects represents the company's first certification under the IECRE OD-502 scheme.

The Hollandse Kust Zuid wind farm is located off the coast of The Hague and Noordwijk, and consists of two sites,
Hollandse Kust Zuid 1&2 and Hollandse Kust Zuid 3 & 4, which Vattenfall secured in separate zero subsidy tenders in March 2018 and July 2019. The project is planned to be fitted with approximately 140 units of Siemens Gamesa’s Direct Drive SG DD-193 offshore turbines, which feature the ability to reach a capacity of 11 MW. Once fully operational, Hollandse Kust Zuid will generate enough power to supply up to three million households with green electricity.
