Taiwan gets local boost

CSBCIn order to facilitate an offshore wind fleet, and materialise localisation as well as expedite comprehensive marine construction and O&M services, CSBC is building a 140m barge for the Taiwan offshore wind market. A commencement ceremony was held on 18th July.

The ceremony had been hosted by CSBC Chairman Dr. Chang, who stated "apart from building this barge, hoping to extend CSBC’s business market into offshore wind industry with the joint venture company CSBC-DEME Wind engineering Co., Ltd. and the 100% self-owned company CSBC Marine Company. CSBC will emerge from ship building into marine service to provide marine construction planning, installation and shipping services."

CSBC’s 140m barge shall open a window for Taiwan offshore wind, and is estimated to be delivered by mid of 2019.

This barge shall fulfil international voyage regulation; it was designed, invested into and built by CSBC, is also a role model for the Taiwanese localisation requirement. The barge estimated ready by Q2 2019.

This barge has several qualities according to the company:

1.        It is suitable for Taiwanese ocean operations all year round, equipped with a ballasting system to meet the requirement of Kaohsiung, Keelung, Taichung and Taipei port. Even with 6m of significant tidal difference in Taichung, she should still be able to perform a 24 hour loading operation, so CSBS state.

2.         Weight capacity up to 23,000 tonnes, with deck loading strength reaching 20 tonnes per m2, The barge is 140m long, 41m wide, and has a depth of 8m.

3.         It complies with international voyage requirement and is equipped with has low air-pollution generation (tier II NOx standard) and ballast water treatment system.

4.         CSBC also claim it is capable of carrying 600MW offshore substation, plus 3,500tonnes underwater foundation, 3,400tonnes topside and 4 of 300tonnes pin-pile together.
