Thailand headquarter power company Gulf Energy Development has acquired a 50% stake in the Borkum Riffgrund 2 offshore wind farm located off the coast of Germany.

The purchase of the stake from Global Infrastructure Partners is valued in the region of €558 million. The remaining interest will be retained by Ørsted who developed and constructed the project.

Borkum Riffgrund 2 is located 57 km off the coast of Lower Saxony and has an export capacity of 450MW which is expected to power around 460,000 German households. The project has been operating since April 2019.

The operation of the wind turbines are being managed by Ørsted's operations management center in Norden-Norddeich. The project is jointly owned by Ørsted and Global Infrastructure Partners. The project is the first German offshore wind farm to feature 8 MW turbines and suction bucket jacket foundations.
