Trianel Borkum Phase 1 in Germany  is supplying power. Yesterday, the commissioning of the first plant was completed. The offshore wind farm with 40 wind turbines located approximately 45km off the coast of the North Sea island of Borkum.

"After the permanent power connection was successfully established by the substation DolWin alpha TenneT to the mainland on 23 December 2014, the first plant is now in trial operation" says Klaus Horstick, Managing Director of Trianel wind farm Borkum GmbH & Co. KG.

The project was expected to be completed by mid-2014. The multiple displacement of grid connection by the transmission system operator had the power connector delayed until the new year.

The commissioning of the 40 wind turbines is now together. All facilities of the AREVA Wind M5000 turbines are to be added gradually with a capacity of 5 MW until spring. "We hope the weather cooperates and we complete the commissioning in timely manner, in order to go after a successful trial run in the summer to control operations" said Horstick.

The vessel AKER WAYFARER was used to install the turbines on the 200MW windpark. The 157m long vessel is equip with two heavy duty cranes and crew facilities.

The technical management of the Trianel wind farm Borkum is done from Germany. The wind farm and the substation will be monitored and controlled from an operations office in Emden.  The Trianel wind farm Borkum will annually produce an expected 4000 of up time and around 800 gigawatt hours (800 million kWh).
