Zaratan 'sailing' to Formosa 1

This morning (22 March 2019), Seajacks announced that its jack-up vessel Zaratan is ‘loaded and sailing to Taiwan’, where it will begin installation works for the Formosa 1 Phase 2 offshore wind farm.

Seajacks won the contract to install 20 Siemens Gamesea 6MW turbines in May 2018. At the time, the company’s chairman, Soichi Inoue, said: “Zaratan has proven to be a tried and trusted platform for innovative projects like this in harsh environments. We’re looking forward to working in partnership with Siemens Gamesa and Formosa’s owners to bring offshore wind power to Taiwan and show once again what we can do.”

Formosa I is located off the coast of Miaoli, Taiwan. Phase 1 includes two Siemens 4MW demonstration turbines which were installed in 2016. Phase 2 will add a further 20 6MW turbines with a total output of 120MW. The project is on track to become Taiwan’s first commercial-scale offshore wind farm.
