KOSECO signs MOU with Zhongtian for offshore wind installation vessels

South Korea's KOSECO has signed a business agreement with Zhongtian Technology to operate Zhongtian Technology's five offshore wind power installation vessels (WTIV) in South Korea.

According to the agreement, Zhongtian Technology will grant KOSECO the right to use or lease five wind power installation vessels owned by Zhongtian Technology that can install large offshore wind turbines, effective from April 2024. These five ships are Zhongtian 31, Zhongtian 39, Zhongtian 7, Zhongtian 8 and Zhongtian 9.

Among them, Zhongtian 31 and Zhongtian 39 were launched in August and October last year and can install 20 MW offshore wind turbines. This also indicates that South Korea will have the construction equipment to install ultra-large offshore wind turbines.

The Zhongtian 31 wind power installation platform has a total length of 139.1 metres and a width of 50 metres. The maximum lifting height of the main hook of the main crane is 165 metres, and the maximum lifting weight is 1,600 tons. The maximum lifting height of the main and auxiliary hooks is 183 metres, and the maximum lifting weight is 500 tons. With the construction capacity of 70 metres in water depth, it can meet the installation needs of most domestic offshore wind turbines with fixed support structures above 20 MW and wind turbines with impeller diameters below 320 metres.
