06 Jun 2024: Update 6th June: SSE (Sure Partners Ltd) have submitted to An Bord Pleanála. Design Envelope: • 47-56 turbines • 155-162 m hub height • 236-250 m rotor diameter • 273 - 287 tip height • 7-11 m monopile diameter • Two substations up to 53 m (height) x 46 m (length) x 33.5 m (length), on a monopile ranging from 7-14 m in diameter. • Monopiles (turbines) to be installed 20-37 m below lowest seabed level, 20-45 m for substation foundations • 110-122 km of array-cabling • 25-28 km of interconnector cabling between the two substations • 35-40 km of 220 kV export cabling (combined) • 10 years to carry out construction • 36.5 years of operational life Update 4 June 2024: SSE plan to submit their planning application this week, according to the developer. Project status changed to 'Consent Application Submitted' . Note that the planning body "Ongoing delays in determining cases. An Bord Pleanála currently has a significant backlog of cases. It is currently working to substantively clear this backlog in 2024. An Bord Pleanála apologises for the consequent delays in determining cases within the normal statutory objective time periods. " Also note that offshore wind projects will be prioritised. Update 7th May 2024: Application as not yet been submitted. Update 18th April 2024: Application as not yet been submitted. Update 11 May 2023: SSE intends to submit its planning application in 2023/4, despite not winning capacity in ORESS 1. The developer is to explorer other routes to market. SSE could apply for planning consent, assuming success in the forthcoming ORESS 1 auction.
