20 Jul 2020: update 20th July: Noordhoek Pathfinder vessel from Noordhoek Survey BV arrived on site on 20th July. The survey is expected to take approximately one month in order to map the seabed of the park area using different types of towed sonar. This will be accompanied by a short sediment sampling campaign which will last two day aimed at improving knowledge of bacteriological corrosion. It will consist of carrying out five vibrocotts and taking a seawater sample (around 500 liters). The surface sediments will be studied in the laboratory and will thus provide useful data to improve knowledge on the corrosion rate of future foundations. No drilling will be carried out. From 5th July until 10th August EMDT will launch a geophysical and geotechnical campaign. The geophysical campaign will concern an area around the future foundations, the electrical substation and along the cable route to better understand the nature of the seabed and to identify, using magnetometers, the possible presence of explosive devices dating from the Second World War. It will also involve mapping the seabed, using a multibeam sounder, and collecting three-dimensional images of the sea depths using a lateral sonar. A short geotechnical campaign will run alongside with the aim of researching bacteriological corrosion. It will consist in carrying out 5 vibrocarotings and a sampling of seawater (approx 500 liters). The surface sediments will be studied in the laboratory and will thus provide useful data to improve knowledge of the corrosion rate of future foundations.
