Offshore Wind farms in Philippines

Philippines has 18 offshore wind farm projects of which none currently operating, none where construction has progressed enough to connect the turbines and generate electricity, none are in the build phase, and none are either consented or have applied for consent. You can access over 80 data sets on each wind farm subject to your access level and drill down to see items such as:

on project 'Aparri Bay' on Monday, 21 June 2021, the following was announced: 'The Department of Energy (DOE) announced that it has partnered with the World Bank Group and BVG associates to create an Offshore Wind Roadmap.

Component 1 of the Roadmap aims to identify opportunity for offshore wind, policy recommendations, practical roadmap with short and long-term targets.
Component 2 of the Roadmap will include potential development areas, delivery mechanisms, timeline, technical studies.

The World Bank Group’s Energy Sector Management Assistance Program (ESMAP) will be funding the Philippine offshore wind roadmap project. The roadmap is due to be completed April 2022.

According to the World Bank (2019) there is 178 GW technical offshore wind resource potential (160 GW floating, 18 GW fixed) in the Philippines. Guimaras Strait suitable for fixed foundations. North of Luzon, North and South of Mindoro Island suitable for floating. There are also numerous pockets around the archipelago with areas suitable for floating turbines but with comparatively low wind speeds. The largest of these areas is off the south coast of Mindoro with a technical potential of 53 GW. Perhaps the most promising area for floating wind is to the north of Mindoro which is near the demand center around Manila.

To date five Wind Energy Service Contracts have been awarded by the DOE (1.85 GW) for offshore wind in Aparri Bay (100 MW), Frontera Bay (450 MW), Guimaras Strait (100 MW), Guimaras Strait II (600 MW) and San Miguel Bay (600 MW). Targeting completion in 2031. As of July 2021 the DOE has also received 9 Rnewable Energy Contract Applications (7.382 GW) and 9 letter of intents (5.06 GW) for offshore wind with a total capacity of 12 GW. '
