Contracts signed for 3.5 GW Vietnamese project

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), Asia Petroleum Energy and Novasia Energy have issued two major site investigation contracts worth approximately USD 5 million for the 3.5 GW La Gan offshore wind farm project, being developed off the Vietnamese coast.

The contract signings were witnessed by the Danish Ambassador to Vietnam and representatives from relevant local authorities in Vietnam. The contracts concerned are a floating LIDAR contract and the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) contract.

The floating LiDAR contract was awarded to Axys Technologies, which will provide wind and wave measurement equipment off the coast of Binh Thuan. It will be one of the first large scale projects to measure wind and wave conditions in the area and Axys will engage several local contractors to support the work.

NIRAS Group was awarded the ESIA contract will see the company collect data, model results and design mitigations to minimises any negative environmental and social impacts from the project. Power Engineering Consulting JSC. No. 3, Vietnam Petroleum Institute - Center for Petroleum safety and environment (VPI-CPSE), Wild Tour & Research Service Co., LTD, and the Center of help for Indigenous value promotion and sustainable environment will support NIRAS Group with the work.

With a potential capacity of 3.5 GW, the La Gan offshore wind project will be one of the first large scale offshore wind projects in Vietnam. With an estimated capital expenditure (CAPEX) of up to USD 10 billion, the project is expected to create income and jobs for both Binh Thuan and Vietnam.
