Samsung Heavy Industries and DNV GL forge floating agreement

Samsung Heavy Industries has signed an agreement with DNV GL to jointly develop a large-capacity floating offshore wind turbine design.

The floating body is a large structure that supports wind power generation facilities on the sea, and has a design similar to that of semi-submersible crude oil production facilities. It is set to feature remote monitoring and digital twin  technology.

It will form part of Samsung Heavy Industries' plans to respond to future demand by developing a competitive offshore wind turbine model.

Ho-Hyun Jung, Head of the Samsung Heavy Industries Technology Development Division, said: "As global interest in climate change and new and renewable energy spreads, the demand for floating offshore wind power is expected to increase." We will secure our own design capability for wind floats.”
