Marine Consultant

Purpose of the role:

TGS 4COffshore are looking for a proactive, highly organized, Marine Consultant to join their team of route engineers. As a Marine Consultant, you will work as a member of the route engineering team, seeing projects through from initial feasibility studies to marine survey and beyond the installation phase to maintenance and decommissioning. Your role is instrumental in supporting the team to ensure reliable and efficient service to clients developing power projects. By contributing to the installation process of worldwide power networks and learning the fundamentals of submarine cable route planning you will play a part in shaping the future of international infrastructure.

Roles and Responsibilities

·Data Management: Managing received data download and organization, Maintaining accurate records and GIS project setup and maintenance. ·Technical Survey Management Support: Conduct thorough documentation and report reviews, Survey data review and QC, Contractor management and coordination, Assist in the preparation of reports and presentations summarizing analysis results and recommendations, and have occasional client facing meetings

·Route Planning and Analysis: Assist in conducting desktop feasibility studies to identify the most suitable paths for laying submarine cables, Analyse bathymetric, geophysical, and geotechnical data to assess seabed conditions and potential hazards under the guidance of senior engineers and Conduct cable burial reviews on existing assets

· Learning and Development: Engage in continuous learning, acquiring knowledge about submarine cable engineering principles, industry standards, and best practices

Job Requirements

· Degree in Hydrographic Survey, Geophysics or a related Earth Sciences subject

· 5-10 years of experience in the marine survey Industry

Knowledge, Skills and attributes

· Strong IT literacy skills

· Proficiency in GIS

· Ability to communicate effectively within the team and externally with suppliers and clients, in a confident and professional manner.

· Flexibility for travel

· Prior experience in route engineering is preferable but not essential.

Job Role:

  • Developing and implementing quality control procedures for large datasets. Developing quality indicators and working closely with team members to ensure their improvement. Reporting progress to management
  • Responsible for improving the efficiency of data extraction, manipulation and analysis methods. Supporting the team with SQL queries and Excel data manipulation. Migration of some tasks to Python/Pandas for improved efficiency.
  • Responsibility for some data and analytical aspects of producing reports. This will include analysing and visualising datasets using Excel, or in some cases Python. Types of analysis will include supply and demand, vessel activity analysis and market trend analysis
  • Working closely with the IT team to ensure the Market Research Team's data quality and data processing requirements are met.
  • Supporting any wider TGS-4C software projects, for example relating to AI/ML
  • Presentation of analysis at webinars or industry events

Experience/Skills:

  • An undergraduate degree ideally in a technical, numeric, or IT discipline. A postgraduate qualification will be well regarded.
  • Demonstrable capabilities in writing SQL queries and programming with Python
  • Strong numerical skills, including basic statistical methods and how these can be applied to large data sets
  • Experience in performing sophisticated data analysis in Excel
  • Understanding of data communication and visualisation best practices, e.g appropriate chart types, summary statistics
  • A self-starter with a can-do attitude who takes responsibility for the completeness and quality of their work.

Working Hours & Wages:

  • 5 days per week (37.5 hours)
  • Base salary dependent on experience and qualifications from £45k per annum.
