Amsterdam IJmuiden Offshore Ports welcomes Vattenfall

Swedish energy company Vattenfall is joining Amsterdam IJmuiden Offshore Ports (AYOP), a Dutch offshore energy network organisation with over 80 members from government and industry. With its membership, Vattenfall wants to promote cooperation with regional companies.

Vattenfall has been operating from the port of IJmuiden for more than ten years, from where it operates a wind farm off the coast of Egmond together with Shell. The company recently took the final investment decision for its four Hollandse Kust Zuid offshore wind farms. The projects are located off the coasts of the Hague and Noordwijk. Vattenfall secured the rights to the Hollandse Kust Zuid 1&2 and Hollandse Kust Zuid 3 & 4, in separate zero subsidy tenders in March 2018 and July 2019 respectively.

Offshore construction is scheduled to start in 2021. The projects are to be fitted with approximately 140 units of Siemens Gamesa’s Direct Drive SG DD-193 offshore turbines, with the ability to reach a capacity of 11 MW. The projects will have a combined capacity of 1,500 MW and are expected to meet the annual electricity consumption of around two million Dutch households.

In the run-up to the construction of Hollandse Kust Zuid, Vattenfall will expand its activities in IJmuiden by, among other things, developing a new maintenance centre, in collaboration with Zeehaven IJmuiden.

Vattenfall will collaborate with a large number of companies, including in the Amsterdam-IJmuiden region, for the construction, operation and maintenance of Hollandse Kust Zuid. An active membership of AYOP enables Vattenfall to contact regional companies that can contribute to the development and operation of Hollandse Kust Zuid.
