Blue Gem Wind names OWC as Owner’s Engineer for floating project

Blue Gem Wind, the joint venture between TotalEnergies and Simply Blue Group, has appointed OWC as Owner’s Engineer for the pre-FEED of the proposed Valorous floating offshore wind project located in the Celtic Sea.

OWC, joined by MarineSpace, ITPEnergised and Black & Veatch, are contracted to deliver Owner’s Engineering services for the pre-lease engineering and consenting scope for the Valorous floating offshore wind project.

Alan Smith, OWC’s Director of Major Projects: “We are delighted that we have been asked to expand and continue our support of Blue Gem Wind’s floating wind Celtic Sea ambitions. We successfully delivered the consent application for the 100MW Erebus project and we are looking forward to working on Valorous.”

David Groves, Commercial Manager, Blue Gem Wind, said “We are pleased to continue the relationship with OWC and their partners. Project design and development is a core skill of the UK supply chain, and we are delighted to award this contract to a UK business.”

The 300 MW Valorous project approximately 50 km South West of the Pembrokeshire coastline. It is situated in water depths of 70 – 84 metres and will feature around 27 turbines. It is expected to following on from the joint venture's test and demonstration project Erebus which is already in development.
Erebus project is to have a 96 MW capacity and will be installed in an area with a water depth of 70 metres. The parties are planning to develop the project using Principle Power’s WindFloat technology. WindFloat is a semi-submersible floating foundation with "water entrapment plates" fitted onto the bottom of the three pillars and a static and dynamic ballast system to enable stability.
