Bold Tern reaches halfway mark on Butendiek

Fred. Olsen Windcarrier’s installation vessel Bold Tern reached a milestone on 19 March 2015 when turbine number 40 was successfully installed on the Butendiek project – bringing the installation campaign to its halfway mark.

The work is carried out on behalf of Siemens AG – which supplies its SWT 3.6-120 turbines for the project. Cooperation between the installation teams from Siemens and the crew on board Bold Tern has been very good, which has enabled the installation of the first 40 turbines in a safe and efficient manner.  Bold Tern will continue to install the remaining 40 turbines throughout the spring.

The offshore wind farm Butendiek is located west of Sylt in the German North Sea. The wind farm comprises 80 turbines with a total output of 288MW, and once completed it will supply around 370,000 households with renewable energy.

The project also reached another important milestone in February, as the first wind turbines started operation and the wind park delivered its first kilowatt hours into the public grid.
