Cable installation underway at Viking Link

Prysmian Cable has commenced installation of the first 51 km submarine cable at Boygrift, UK, for Viking Link. The submarine cable is being laid by Prysmian’s cable lay barge, Cable Enterprise, from 10 May to 23 June 2021. Subsequent burial by Assodiver's cable lay vessel, Atalanti, is planned from 12 May to 30 July 2021.

The 1.4 GW
Viking Link is a proposed HVDC link between UK and Denmark. The 767 km project is being jointly developed by National Grid Viking Link Ltd (NGVL) and by Energinet, the Danish transmission system operator (TSO). Prysmian cables is responsible for manufacturing the 1250 km submarine cable, and 135 km onshore cable at the UK side. While, 150 km onshore cable at Denmark side will be manufactured by NKT. The 525 kV project is scheduled to go online in 2023.
