Cadeler A/S has been chosen by Ørsted as preferred Wind Turbine Generator (WTG) installation vessel supplier for the Gode Wind 3 and Borkum Riffgrund 3 projects.

The award covers the transport and installation of a minimum of 48 x 11 MW turbines. Cadeler will deploy its installation vessel
Wind Osprey, which by the time the project is set to start, will have a new and upgraded main crane.

The intention with this award is to sign a formal binding contract once the mandatory standstill period has expired. This is expected to be completed later this year.

Cadeler’s CEO, Mikkel Gleerup adds: “We are very pleased to partner with Ørsted on this project and to be awarded the preferred supplier status, as it demonstrates the competitiveness of our upgraded O-class vessels”.

The
Gode Wind 3 and Borkum Riffgrund 3 offshore wind farms will be located approximately 60 km from each other in the German North Sea. Combined, they will have a total capacity of more than 1 GW.

The installation of
Borkum Riffgrund 3 is expected to begin 2024 with commissioning being completed in 2025, subject to Ørsted's final investment decision. It will be the largest offshore project in Germany to date featuring 83 turbines. Borkum Riffgrund 3 is the product of Ørsted merging three wind farms it secured in auctions in 2017 and 2018. The 900 MW wind farm will be built and operated without subsidies.

Ørsted expects the installation of
Gode Wind 3 to begin in 2023, with commissioning being completed in 2024. The array will be built about 32 kilometres off the island of Norderney, and will consist of 23 turbines with a combined capacity of 242 MW. The final investment decision for the project is still pending.

It was also
announced today (7 October 2021) that Seaway 7 ASA has been selected as a preferred contractor by Ørsted for the transport and installation of wind turbine generators for part of the Gode Wind 3 and Borkum Riffgrund 3 offshore wind farms in Germany.
