The White Cross floating offshore wind development project has submitted the Section 36 and Marine Licence applications for the project's consent to the Marine Management Organisation (MMO).

The project will have a capacity of up to 100 MW and will be a development under The Crown Estate's (TCE) Test and Demonstration leasing opportunity. Test and demonstration projects play a significant role in supporting the delivery of innovative technologies and building a strong local supply chain. The project will aid in supporting new jobs, skills and economic growth.

The project is being developed by Offshore Wind Limited, a joint venture between Flotation Energy and Cobra Instalaciones y Servicios, S.A. The joint venture have been actively developing the White Cross site since 2020 and secured the development rights from TCE in July 2021. The team, alongside specialist consultants, have worked to complete all necessary surveys, collate and distribute required information and undertake necessary assessments.

The 100 MW White Cross demonstration project will be located 50 km northwest off the North Devon and Cornwall coast and will feature six to eight turbines. The turbines will be connected to land via a cable which is proposed to make landfall at the north end of Saunton Sands Beach. The onshore cable will then connect to the existing substation at East Yelland, south of the River Taw. Once fully operational, the project can power more than 135,000 homes with renewable energy.
