Dutch wind farms up for consultation

The Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) has reached key planning milestones for the Hollandse Kust West (HKW) and Ten noorden van de Waddeneilanden (TNVDW) offshore wind projects.

The draft site decisions and EIA reports for the HKW wind energy area have been made available for inspection from 5th February 2021 to 18th March 2021.

Located about 50 km west of the coast of North Holland, two sites within HKW area will have a combined capacity of 1,400 megawatts (MW). Two platforms (Alpha and Beta) will be built separately by TenneT and power will be transported to the transformer station on Zeestraat in the municipality of Beverwijk.

The definitive wind farm site decisions expected Q2 2021. The tender is due to open Q4 2021 and close Q1 2022, with winners announced in Q2 2022. Full commissioning is expected in 2025-2026.

The RVO is also consulting on the following tender for the 700 MW Ten noorden van de Waddeneilanden (TNVDW) offshore wind farm.

From 29th January 29 to 11th March 11, 2021, the draft Memorandum on Scope and Detail (c-NRD) is available for inspection. This memorandum sets out the framework for the environmental impact report and the wind farm site decision. Draft wind farm site decisions are expected to be published later this year ahead of the tender in 2022.

The project will be built within the wind energy area north of the Wadden Islands and 60-70 km north of Schiermonnikoog. Full commissioning is envisaged for 2027.

Both projects fall under the offshore wind energy roadmap 2030 which sets an operational offshore wind target of 49 TWh by 2030.
