EWE is selling its offshore wind subsidiary, EWE Offshore Service & Solutions GmbH (EWE OSS) to VINCI Energies. The transaction was approved in mid-November. Both contractual partners agreed not to disclose the purchase price.

The offshore wind farms
Alpha Ventus, Riffgat and Trianel wind farm Borkum II remain the property of EWE.

The EWE OSS, based in Oldenburg, is a 100% subsidiary of EWE AG and was founded in 2012. It has an has an annual turnover of around 30 million euros and employs 160 people. It specialises in planning offshore wind farms and, in particular, in their maintenance. Among other things, the company has in-depth know-how in the areas of substations, transition pieces as well as IT and communication technology.

Dr. Urban Keussen, Technical Director EWE AG, said: “With EWE OSS, we have developed an offshore pioneer over many years that has good growth prospects. Even if the offshore business in Europe is still growing, the strongest growth in an intensive market environment is currently taking place in markets outside Europe, e.g. B. USA and Asia. That is why, with its corporate strategy that was realigned in 2016, EWE decided not to invest any more in the offshore sector. The current sale process is now a logical consequence of this realignment and the focus of EWE on the expansion of wind energy on land. In the VINCI Group, EWE OSS has the promising growth and development opportunities that we wish this committed and ambitious team to do. "

“EWE OSS is the ideal partner for VINCI Energies to strategically expand the group-wide portfolio. The aim is to decisively advance the activities in the offshore area and to internationalize them in the next step. The company is being expanded to become VINCI Energies' offshore competence center - a milestone in the further development into a full-range provider for offshore substations,”
said Frank Westphal, Managing Director of VINCI Energies Deutschland Industry & Infrastructure GmbH.

Irina Lucke and Dr. Jan-Dirk kleine Holthaus, Managing Director of EWE OSS, added: “For us, this transition means more than a strategic partnership. EWE Offshore Service & Solutions GmbH sees excellent opportunities in the new group structure to further expand its services and gain access to new markets through synergy effects. ”

As VINCI Energies Deutschland Industry & Infrastructure GmbH announced, EWE Offshore Service & Solutions GmbH will change its name to Omexom Renewable Energies Offshore GmbH with the takeover. It will become the new Offshore Division within the Omexom Transformation business area.
