The Port of Tyne welcomed the arrival of the vessel Aeolus, heralding a significant step forward for the RWE Sofia Offshore Wind Farm project. Operated by international marine contractor Van Oord, the Aeolus is set to undertake foundation installation work crucial to the project's progression.

Sofia stands as a cornerstone within RWE's global and UK offshore portfolio, representing a flagship development for the company. Building on past successful collaborations, RWE is pleased to once again partner with Van Oord, who will also oversee array cable installation later this year. The partnership's track record includes notable projects such as Rampion, Humber Gateway, and the London Array.

The foundation installation, pivotal to Sofia's development, will be orchestrated from the Port of Tyne. Leveraging upgraded facilities tailored for this campaign, the port ensures smooth operations for this phase. Meanwhile, the Port of Blyth will serve as the hub for array cable installation, highlighting strategic logistical planning for the project's diverse requirements.

Through initiatives like Sofia, RWE is actively contributing to the growth of an industry focused on sustainable energy production, balancing cost efficiency with consumer benefits while fostering economic development.
