Flotation Energy Taiwan (Floatation) has announced that it has submitted its Development Action Plan (DAP) to the Taiwan Environmental Protection Administration (EPA). Its a step ahead of submitting a full EIA for a floating wind demonstration and commercial project off Hsinchu on the north-west coast of Taiwan.

The proposed project is located 20km off the coast of Hsinchu City and could cover an area of 182 square kilometers. It features water depths between 60 to 90 metres and could feature turbines up to 20 MW in capacity. According to Flotation, the site could host an array with a capacity of 1.2 GW. Energy generated by the project would come ashore via a export cable to Hsinchu City where a substation would be developed to help integrate power to the onshore grid.

According to Flotation Energy's plans, the project consists of an initial 100 MW test and demonstration array, which will eventually be followed by two 600 MW commercial floating projects. The test and demonstration site will be the first floating wind project in Taiwan, and is expected to enter operations in 2026.
