Hellenic scores Seagreen cable contract

Hellenic Cables has been awarded a contract by Seaway 7 to supply 66kV inter-array cables and accessories for the Seagreen offshore wind farm.

Under the contract, Hellenic Cables will design, manufacture, test and supply approximately 320 km of 66 kV XLPE-insulated inter-array cables and associated accessories. The cables will be produced in Corinth, Greece, at Hellenic Cables’ submarine cable plant. Delivery is planned by early 2022.

Seaway 7 was awarded a contract by Seagreen Wind Energy Limited. The contract covers engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) of the foundations and inter-array cables for the wind farm.

Mr Alexios Alexiou, CEO of Hellenic Cables, commented: “We are proud to support Seaway 7 in a project that will provide low carbon energy for around 1 million homes and enable the clean energy transition in the UK.”

The Seagreen offshore wind farm is a 1,075 MW project, located 27 km off the Angus Coast in the Firth of Forth. It will be developed and operated by Seagreen Wind Energy Limited. Once constructed, the wind farm will be the largest in Scotland and Phase One is expected to provide low carbon energy for around one million homes.

In September 2019, Seagreen secured a 15-year CfD contract awarded by the UK government. SSE Renewables is leading on the development and construction of the first 1,140 MW phase, supported by Total, and will operate the asset on completion, which is expected in 2022/23. The project will feature 114 MHI Vestas V164-10 MW turbines.

SSE Renewables recently announced the final investment decision (FID) for the 1,075 MW Seagreen 1 offshore wind development, alongside an agreement to sell a 51% stake in Seagreen 1 to Total SA.
