IberBlue Wind announces second floating offshore wind project

IberBlue Wind have announced a second floating offshore wind project off the coast of Andalusia.

The project, called "La Pinta", will consist of 55 18 MW turbines with an installed capacity of 990 MW. The wind farm will be located off the coast of Granada and Almeria, and will cover an area of around 316 square kilometres. When operational, the project will have the capacity to supply energy to over 670,000 homes.

IberBlue Wind is a joint venture between Simply Blue Group, Proes Consultores and FF New Energy Ventures. The project is called La Pinta in tribute to one of the three caravels used by Christopher Columbus on his first trip to America.

LA Pinta will use floating offshore wind technology in order to create carbon-free energy, assisting in the Spanish Government's goal to realise 1-3 GW of installed offshore wind energy by 2030. IberBlue has submitted the Initial Project Document (IPD), including its technical characteristics, to the Ministry of Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO).

The global investment required for the construction and maintenance of the wind farm is expected to exceed EUR 2,500 million and generate over 3,300 jobs.

The news comes only a few days after the announcement of the IberBlue's first cross-border offshore wind projects, Juan Sebastián Elcano and Creoula.
