First Taiwan-flagged SOV delivered

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) has announced that a newbuild Service Operation Vessel (SOV), TSS PIONEER, which was constructed for Ta San Shang Marine Co., Ltd., a joint company of MOL and Ta Tong Marine Co., Ltd., has been delivered from VARD Vung Tau shipyard in Vietnam.

The Taiwan-flagged SOV newbuild  will soon sail to Taiwan and once the vessel is ready for operation it will be chartered to Ørsted at the 900 MW Greater
Changhua 1 and 2a offshore wind farms, the first large-scale and far-shore wind farms in Taiwan.

She will provide use a motion compensated walk to work gangway to provide access to the wind turbines for the O&M technicians.The SOV is equipped with a dynamic positioning system (DPS) to continuously ensure safe distance between the vessel and the offshore wind turbine platforms.

Ørsted is currently constructing both the Greater
Changhua 1 and 2a projects which located between 35 and 60 kilometres off the west coast of Changhua County, Taiwan on behalf of project partners. They will consist of 111 Siemens Gamesa SG 8.0-67 DD offshore wind turbines, each with a capacity of 8 MW. The wind farms will have a combined capacity of approximately 900 MW, which is expected to be enough to supply around 1 million Taiwanese households with green power.
