NHC Northern Helicopter to support four offshore wind farms

Northern Helicopter GmbH (NHC Northern Helicopter), Emden, will support the offshore rescue for the Veja Mate, Nordergründe, Butendiek and BARD Offshore 1 in the German exclusive economic zone on August 1, 2020 ( EEZ) of the North Sea.

The contract with the companies Veja Mate Offshore Project GmbH, OWP Nordergrund GmbH & Co. KG, OWP Butendiek GmbH & Co. KG, and Ocean Breeze Energy GmbH & Co. KG has a term of three years with the option of a further two years.

The contract package includes air rescue for a total of 245 offshore wind turbines and coordination via the emergency control center. The wind farms are located in the German Bight and some are more than 100 kilometers from the mainland.

NHC Northern Helicopter has specialised in acute and emergency medical care and the transport of injured and sick people from offshore wind farms in both the North and Baltic Seas for more than ten years. Since 2019, NHC Northern Helicopter has been a company of the DRF Foundation Air Rescue Non-Profit AG (DRF Air Rescue). Together with its partners, the company offers the holistic rescue concept WINDEAcare for offshore air rescue.

Every NHC Northern Helicopter offshore rescue helicopter has modern emergency medical equipment for the treatment and monitoring of patients, which more than meets the required equipment standard DIN EN 13718. These include ventilators, mobile ultrasound and monitoring. The flying crew consists of two pilots and a winch operator, the medical crew consists of an emergency medic and an emergency doctor. Both are trained to rescue injured people from great heights, especially at sea.

Offshore wind turbines have a height of more than one hundred meters. The emergency paramedics have additional qualifications in height and water rescue.

NHC Northern Helicopter offshore rescue helicopters are on standby for offshore rescue around the clock, 365 days a year.
