Norther turbine installation nears completion

Turbine installation works at the Norther offshore wind farm are well underway, with turbine number 36 currently being erected. Around 80% of the MHI Vestas V164-8.0 MW units now stand at the Belgian site.

The €1.2bn Norther wind farm is being constructed 23km from the Belgian port of Zeebruges, and is expected to be operational this year. It is owned by Elicio, Eneco & Diamond Generating Europe, and is currently poised to be the largest project off the Belgian coast. The 369.6 MW project is anticipated to generate enough energy to power over 260,000 homes annually.

Turbine installation work is being completed by Van Oord's jack-up vessel Aeolus 2.0, which underwent upgrades last year. These included the installation sponsons, strengthening the deck, and adding enlarged spud cans and a new accommodation module with a helideck. The 900t crane was replaced by a 1,600t Huisman leg encircling crane.
