DEME Group’s new offshore installation vessel, Orion, has sailed out from Bremerhaven and docked at its base near Vlissingen.

The vessel, which features a 5,000-tonne crane and a motion compensated pile gripper, was constructed at COSCO Qidong shipyard in China. At 216.5m long, it is equipped with DP3 (Dynamic Positioning) capability and can accommodate a total of 131 people.

DEME Group subsidiary GeoSea will deploy the vessel for the construction of large offshore wind turbines. It can transport monopiles, jackets, wind turbine components and other structures associated with the construction of giant multi-megawatt         wind turbines.

DEME Group communicates that a naming ceremony is to take place ‘soon’.
