Alpine Ocean Seismic SurveyStarting in the first few days of April and lasting an estimated four months, surveys will take place in the Vineyard Wind Lease Area and between the Lease Area and Cape Cod, including Muskeget Channel and Nantucket Sound. The surveys will be undertaken by three ships; R/V Shearwater, R/V Henry Hudson, and the R/V Kommander Iona

Collecting data and working with the local fisheries,
Vineyard Wind aim to communicate and work with the local fisherman in the region during all stages of development of the proposed offshore wind farm. Information gathered will be used to further design the wind farm and refine the location for the cable route from the wind farm to shore.

Vineyard Wind LLC is one of three companies that has acquired lease rights to build wind projects off the coast of Massachusetts. The project is a joint venture between Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) and Avangrid Renewables. The offshore wind development company is based in New Bedford, Massachusetts and is currently developing a project with the aim to operate the first utility-scale project in US Waters.

The
proposed project is to be located 14 miles (24km) off Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts and cover 495km (122,405 acres) of the Atlantic Ocean. The developer submitted a proposal to construct the project with a capacity of up to 800MW, however it claims the site could host an array up to 1.6GW.

Last summer, Massachusetts announced a Bill requiring utilities to procure 1.6GW of clean, offshore wind energy within the next decade. The 1.6GW will generate enough clean energy to power the equivalent of more than 750,000 Massachusetts homes every year.
