The UK and Belgian TSOs, National Grid and Elia, have initiated marine survey tender for the proposed 1.4 GW Nautilus multipurpose interconnector (MPI). Both the TSOs are currently developing proposals for the Nautilus link and have identified a need for an HVDC link over a distance of ~200 km. Therefore, a survey requirement has arisen to find the most suitable cable route.

The tender has been divided into two lots. The first lot includes a geophysical survey of the cable route and platform, and a geotechnical survey for cables. While, the geotechnical survey of platform is included in the second lot. All the survey works will be carried out in 2022 and 2023.

Tenders or requests should be submitted online at
www.ariba.com, before the deadline on 9th August 2021.

Nautilus MPI is a proposed 400 kV project between Belgium and the UK. The link considers the possibility of connecting electricity market and offshore wind generation of both the countries. The European commission has already considered Nautilus MPI a Project of Common interest (PCI). The final investment decision of the project is expected in 2024/25, with full commissioning planned for 2028.
