01 Sep 2023: Autumn project design update: 1. Size of array boundary reduced to mitigate impacts on other marine users. Potential effects on ferry routes is a concern for people – both individually and when considered alongside other developments in the Irish Sea. Decrease from 322 km2, to approximately 280km2 . To promote co-existence with fishing activities, it will maintaining an area within the array boundary that will be free of wind turbines and offshore substation platform(s). It has also increased the spacing from approximately 1,000m between rows of turbines and approximately 875m between each turbine in a row, to a minimum spacing of approximately 1,400m, both within and between rows. It is also committing to maintaining two ‘lines of orientation’ through the array area and our wind turbine rows will generally be orientated north to south. This will further aid in the safety of marine navigation, fishing activities and search and rescue within the array boundary . 2. Reduced the maximum number of turbines from 107 to 96. Increased the rotor diameter of the largest wind turbine from 280m to 320m. Due to ground conditions, removed the option of using monopile foundations but are still considering using gravity base and / or jacket foundations. 3. Working towards the submission of the project’s Development Consent Order (DCO) in 2024. Anticipate a final decision being made on the application in 2025. If the application is successful, expect to start construction in 2026 at the earliest. COD 28/29 earliest.
