28 Apr 2020: Suomen Hyötytuuli initiated its EIA programme for the extension project. The deadline for comments is the 29th May. The EIA covers three options: Option 0 (VE0): No project: no offshore wind farm to be built. Option 1 (VE1): A maximum of 40 power plants with a total height of up to 300 meters and a unit capacity of approximately 11-16 MW will be located in the project area. The offshore wind farm will be built in one area with an area of ··about 128 km2. Option 2 (VE2): A maximum of 45 power plants with a total altitude of up to 300 meters and a unit capacity of approximately 11-16 MW will be located in the project area. The offshore wind farm will be built in the same place as VE1, but with an additional area of ··approximately 7.8 km2 to the north-east of it, in which case the total area will be approximately 135 km2. In both VE1 and VE2, electricity transmission to Tahkoluoto will be carried out by submarine cables, and if necessary, a marine substation will be built in the area of ··the offshore wind farm. The wind farms will be connected to the existing electricity grid in Tahkoluoto. Note: An EIA programme includes: Basic information about the project, its options and technical description • Schedule for the project and the EIA procedure, as well as a plan for organizing participation and information • Description of the current status of the project and review areas and a plan of what impacts will be assessed and the methods used to carry out the assessments. In the second stage of the EIA procedure, an EIA report is prepared on the basis of the EIA program and the opinions and opinions issued on it, as well as the environmental impacts of the project, their significance, comparison of assessed alternatives and mitigation measures. The EIA procedure ends when the contact authority (ELY Center of Southwest Finland) submits its reasoned conclusion to the person responsible for the project.
