28 Apr 2022: Update 28th April 2022: the Special Commission for Public Debate published the debate report and recommendations to the State. No preferential areas was selected and the commission recommends relocation to a larger potential area further offshore, potentially opening the scope to floating. This is due proximity to the marine natural park of the Gironde estuary and the Pertuis sea and a special protection area (ZPS) associated with the European Natura 2000 network. The State will have until July 28, 2022 to make its decision on establishment of the wind farm. Update 1st December: In order to allow a better expression of the public's proposals, the project owner (Ministry of Ecological Transition) wished to widen the initial study area (from 300 km²) to 743 km². However, the characteristics of the wind project remain the same. The debate has also been extended until 28th February. Publication of the report of the debate 28th April 2022. Update September 2021: Opening of the public debate scheduled for 30th September. Closure of the public debate expected 30th January 2022. The report of the debate will be published 30th March. Following the public debate, the CNDP will issue its decision March 2022. The government and RTE invite the public to express their views on the location of a 500 to 1000 MW wind power project (between 50 and 80 wind turbines) within a macro-zone located on the South Atlantic coast, and its connection to the electricity transmission network of 'electricity. The macro-zone, covering an area of nearly 300 km², includes an area of 120 km² already identified as suitable for the installation of a wind farm during consultations carried out by the State services under the aegis of the prefecture of Charente-Maritime in 2015 and 2017. In view of the future development objectives of offshore wind power provided for in the PPE, the public is also invited to express their opinion on the advisability of a future planned extension of 1GW (bringing the installed power of the park up to 2GW maximum) and its connection which could be shared with that of the first park. The connection to the land can be made from the north or the south of the island; it could take different technical forms. An offshore wind farm with a power of 0.5 at 1 GW to be allocated in 2022 and the extension will be awarded after 2024.
