CANARRAY I Floating Wind Farm

09 Mar 2021: EnerOcean S.L. has announced the launch of two floating wind farm projects with a combined capacity of 180 MW off the coast of Gran Canaria. CANARRAY I - 48 MW- and CANARRAY II - 132 MW-. The projects will feature the innovative twin-turbine platform, W2POWER. Enerocean presented the Initial Project Document (DIP) as part of the environmental scoping phase to the to the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge. The environmental body (MITERD) will consult the affected public administrations and people interested in the project and will prepare the Scope Document defining the scope, level of detail and degree of specification that the future EIA of the project must have. The CANARRAY I experimental offshore wind farm, in the territorial sea of the island of Gran Canaria, southeast of it and off the coast of San Bartolomé de Tirajana. It will feature 4 floating platforms, with a total of 8 wind turbines (4 platforms, 2 wind turbines per platform with powers between 5 and 6 MW and a rotor diameter of up to 155 meters. ) with a total nominal potential of up to 48 MW. The platform mooring system consists of 3 conventional marine chain lines or a hybrid system based on synthetic fibers and chains and attach to the seafloor using a trawl anchor. Array cabling will be both static and dynamic and rated at 66 kV, between 163 and 183 mm in diameter. The submarine cabling will be laid from land to the platform closest to coast. The site has proximity to several electrical substations, such as the 66kV Matorral substation of Red Eléctrica Española (REE) in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, which would allow the connection of the marine park and the evacuation of the energy produced.
