14 Oct 2021: Orsted applied for a Marine License from the MMO to carry out Array Cable Stabilisation works on 25th June 2021. The application was granted 14th October 2021. Recent investigations have shown degradation of the existing Cable Protection System (CPS) associated with inter-array cables where they exit foundations. It is a arge-scale issue across the site. Continued degradation of the inter-array cables will occur (which could result in power transmission loss, and subsequent emergency cable repairs) unless remedial action through stabilisation of the existing CPS is conducted as soon as possible. Proposed works include cable stabilisation via rock/rock bag placement which will act to reduce movement of the cable. This will stabilise the CPS, minimising abrasion and reduce the likelihood of cable faults requiring repair. The stabilisation works will include the placement of permanent rock and/or rock bag berms to stabilise cable ends at 35 WTG foundations + 1 Offshore Substation (OSS). Of the 35 WTG foundations, 15 of the foundations are installed with single layer Scour Protection Pads (SPPs) while 20 foundations are installed without scour protection. The proposed stabilisation works will involve the construction of rock and/or rock bag berms onto the existing SPPs at 15 WTG foundations, with the rock berms extending off the toe of the SPPs onto surrounding seabed. At the 20 WTG locations where no SPPs are present and at the OSS location permanent rock and/or rock bag berms will be placed entirely onto the seabed. Applications have also been submitted for the following Orsted Wind Farms: Race Bank, MLA/2021/00200; Walney Extension, MLA/2021/00266; Burbo Bank Extension, MLA/202100251.
