The first steel sheet of the electrical substation for the
Fécamp offshore wind farm was cut at Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire (France).

Ordered by a consortium composed with EDF Renouvelables, Enbridge and wpd Offshore, this substation is to be designed and manufactured by a consortium of Atlantic Offshore Energy (part of Chantiers de l’Atlantique), GE Grid Solutions and SDI.

Atlantique Offshore Energy is in charge of the topside and jacket-type foundation design, manufacturing and commissioning.  GE Grid Solutions is responsible for high & medium voltage electrical equipment and protection control systems design, manufacturing and commissioning. SDI has been tasked with the transport and installation of these structures.

The delivery of the substation, whose construction mobilizes 400 people, is scheduled in 2022. The same consortium is currently building the Saint-Nazaire offshore wind farm electrical substation, to be commissioned in 2021.

"With the start of the construction of the Fécamp offshore wind farm electrical substation, we are taking a new step forward in the energy transition process of France and Europe. We are proud to be part of it, with all our industrial partners," stated Frédéric Grizaud, director of Atlantique Offshore Energy.

The
Fécamp offshore wind farm will be located between 13 and 22 kilometres off the coast of Fécamp in Normandy. The 71 wind turbines will be connected to gravity-based foundations installed on the seabed at depths between 25 and 30 metres. It is expected to produce the equivalent of the domestic electricity consumption of approximately 770,000 people, representing more than 60% of the inhabitants of the Seine-Maritime area.
