The EEW Group is one of the main suppliers for the Formosa 2 Taiwanese offshore wind project supporting foundation fabrication for EPCI contractor Jan de Nul.

The three Asian EEW manufacturing facilities EEW KHPC, EEW Korea and EEW Malaysia have fabricated more than half of the 194 pin piles with lengths up to 78.9 meters, an outside diameter of 2.4 meters and with weights up to 280 MT.

Besides 44,000 MT of pin piles, the EEW Group also produces steel pipe components for 47 jackets with a total tonnage of 47,500 MT. The fabricators Saipem and PT SMOE carry out the assembly of the jacket constructions.

After its final installation in 2021 the 376 MW wind park will deliver electricity for approx. 380,000 households per year.

“The development of renewable energy sources in East Asia is a role model for other countries. After the successful completion of the first Formosa I Phase 2 project (for which we supplied 20 monopiles from EEW SPC) we are proud to be a part of the follow-up project Formosa II” says Christoph Schorge, CEO of the EEW Group.

Once fully constructed, Formosa 2 will be one of Taiwan’s largest offshore wind projects, consisting of 47 turbines each with an 8 MW capacity. With an overall capacity of 376 MW, it is expected to produce enough to power for up to 380,000 Taiwanese families with green energy.
