Framo to supply pumping systems for Seagreen

Pump manufacturer Framo, an Alfa Laval company, has been commissioned to supply pumping systems for foundations of the
Seagreen offshore wind farm project. It is the second order for pumping systems in this application.

The order from Saipem will see Framo's pumping systems used in a suction bucket technology during the installation of
Seagreen offshore wind farm. The pumping system technology is designed to secure and anchor the wind turbine platforms to the seabed.

“This second order for our Framo pumping systems used in suction bucket foundations to wind farms is an important milestone for us as it cements our position in this application and takes our long-proven and validated technology from offshore oil platforms to renewable applications,”
said Sameer Kalra, President of the Marine Division in Alfa Laval. Sameer added: “Our knowledge and experience from delivering innovative and reliable products to the offshore industry is now also making a difference within renewable energy, to the benefit of our customers and the environment.”

The
Seagreen offshore wind farm is located 27 km off the Angus Coast in the Firth of Forth. It will be developed and operated by Seagreen Wind Energy Limited. Once constructed, the wind farm will be the largest in Scotland. Phase One is expected to provide low carbon energy for more than one million homes.

In September 2019, Seagreen secured a 15-year CfD contract awarded by the UK government. SSE Renewables is leading on the development and construction of the first 1,140 MW phase, supported by Total, and will operate the asset on completion, which is expected in 2022/23. The project will feature 114 MHI Vestas
V164-10 MW turbines.
