Renexia celebrates full commissioning for first Mediterranean wind farm

Renexia has celebrated the full commissioning and operational start of the first offshore wind farm in the Mediterranean. The Beleolico (also named Taranto) project is located near the Port of Taranto, in the region of Puglia, in the south-east of Italy.

It features ten MySE3.0-135 turbines from MingYang, each with a 3 MW capacity. They were installed by Van Oord using its offshore installation vessel MPI Resolution and are the first commercial Chinese turbines in European waters. MingYang is also set to deliver a 25-year full operations and maintenance service contract.

Renexia acquired the 30 MW offshore wind project from Luxembourg based Belex Holding in mid-2018. It is anticipated that it will produce 58,200 MWh per year, enough to power 21,000 homes.

The project obtained a feed-in-tariff (FiT) of €161.70/MWh back in 2016, although the plant is entitled to add an additional €40/MWh, having built the electrical connection itself.
