SSE Renewables issues tender notices for Irish wind farm

SSE Renewables has issued two separate tenders for the installation of array cables infrastructure and turbine foundations on its Arklow Bank Phase 2 offshore wind farm.

Arklow Bank Phase 2 is located approximately 6km to 15km off the coast of Arklow, Co. Wicklow and covers an area approximately 27km long and 2.5km wide. It will have a capacity up to 800MW and consist of up to approximately 62 turbines. SSE Renewables is progressing plans to participate in Ireland’s first Offshore auction in late 2022/early 2023, with eyes on a 2025 completion date for the project.

The cable infrastructure tender's scope includes responsibility for the design, supply, manufacture, storage, loadout, transportation, installation, burial, protection, testing and commissioning of the array cable 66kV system in accordance with the Employer Requirements and Programme. The cable system includes all of the cables (inter array cables, fibre optic cables, interface cables), interface connections, cable protection system, joint equipment, joints (including changeover joints),terminal equipment, terminations and all other items which will be detailed in the Employer’s Requirements.

The second tender concerns the supply, fabrication, storage, loadout, transportation, install, testing, commissioning and completion of monopile and Transition Piece (if applicable) based Wind Turbine Generator (WTG) Substructures, including secondary and tertiary steel in accordance with the Employer's Requirements and Programme. The Contractor will be responsible for the seafastening, transportation, installation, hookup, commissioning and completion of the WTG substructures, including monopile foundations, transition pieces (if applicable) and all related secondary and tertiary components.

For both tenders there will be a Pre-Qualification Questionnaire (PQQ) process. Contractors will be selected from the PQQ stage by way of minimum qualifying and mandatory criteria to take forward to the Invitation to Tender (ITT) stage. Contractors will be assessed and evaluated based on their responses and the mandatory and/or minimum requirements within the respective sections within the PQQ. Following this stage, up to five evaluated contractors will be invited for the ITT.


Requests to participate for both tenders are required by 24 February 2022.
