Vattenfall, BASF to bid for HKW

Vattenfall and BASF have confirmed that they will be partnering to bid in the forthcoming Hollandse Kust West (HKW) offshore wind tender in the Netherlands.

Vattenfall is to bid for Site VII and to partner with BASF to bid for Site VI, with a concept for biodiversity. Between them, the two sites could accommodate 1.4 GW of offshore wind power.

Located about 53 km off the Netherlands’ west coast, the HKW wind farm zone is to be auctioned in two separate sites (Sites VI and VII), each of which can accommodate up to 700 MW of wind capacity.

For Site VI bidding, both parties are required to include ecological measures in their proposal. For Site VII, investments and innovations to benefit the Dutch energy system are required. The HKW tender will be first to incorporate a financial bid as well as the ecological and system integration award criteria.

The tender opened on 14^th April and will close on 12^th May 2022. As reported in 4C Offshore’s customer-exclusive Market Overview report earlier this year, the financial bid is capped at €50m for each site. The winners are expected to be announced after October 2022. A permit for the operation of an offshore wind farm will be awarded with a lease for 35 years.

Last year, BASF purchased 49.5% of Vattenfall’s Hollandse Kust Zuid (HKZ) project, which it won in a previous tender. The first serially manufactured 11 MW turbine was installed on that site earlier this week.
