The construction of Mareel Ocean Blue was completed following some issues with the shipyard. Originally the vessel was due to be built at Buckie before the yard entered administration.

In May 2019, the assets of Turbine Transfers (original owner) were acquired by Northern Offshore Group and the vessel is now operated under Mareel Limited, a Northern Offshore Group company.
