EEW Group delivers pin piles for Greater Changhua 1 & 2a

The EEW Group has announced that the production of 123 pin piles for the Greater Changhua 1 and 2a offshore wind farms has been completed.

The production took place from December 2019 until end of January 2021 in South Korea at EEW KHPC. During this production period, high QHSE measures had to be met. Special attention was paid to COVID-19 infection control and hygiene requirements.

Despite the exceptional circumstances all parties involved were able to complete the project on time with zero recordable incidents. The last pin pile left the production site on 27th of January 2021 to be shipped from the port of Gwangyang to the final construction destination in Taiwan in mid-February. Overall, 123 pin piles with total weight of 38,000 MT and a maximum single pile length of approximately 83 metres will form the foundations of the wind farms.

Greater Changhua 1 and 2a are located between 35 and 60 kilometres off the west coast of Changhua County, Taiwan and are being developed by Ørsted on behalf of project partners. They will consist of 111 Siemens Gamesa SG 8.0-67 DD offshore wind turbines, each with a capacity of 8 MW. Expected to be operational in 2022, the wind farms will have a combined capacity of of approximately 900 MW, enough to supply around 1 million Taiwanese households with green power.
